Monty Says “Catch me if you can!”

As some of you may have noticed, I have been getting a little bit porky lately.  Mum had me checked out with the vet and she said that there is nothing wrong with me, I’m just a bit overweight. 3Kg to be exact!

I am raw fed and mum feeds me 200g a day which is the normal amount that a 10kg dog should be having.  So it wasn’t the food so it must be that I am a bit of a couch potato and don’t do a lot of exercise. My favourite things are eating and sleeping.

So mum decided that the only way I was going to get fit was to take me for a long walk every day.

Well, it has been four weeks of walking and I have lost 1/2 kg and I am a machine, a healthy machine.

Mum decided that she also needed to get fit so we walk a minimum of 4Km a day. Sometimes we are on the beach and others through parks but today we did the Parata Track in Waikanae, which is a 1.8Km bush walk winding upwards to the top.  At the top there is a seat which mum sat on to catch her breath.

It was slow going on the way up, mum has been a little ill so she took it slowly, but I was on form and just wanted to race ahead all the time.  If I went too far ahead mum would ask me to either stop or slow down, which I reluctantly did!

Tosca came as well but he is getting on a bit and has a bad habit of following his nose and disappearing so he has to stay on the lead.

When mum had rested for a while we had to go back down the hill.  And I was off.  To keep up mum had to jog down behind me, which she actually liked and she didn’t even fall over this time! (She normally falls over at least twice, and don’t get me started on what happened when she walked along a muddy cow trail, tried to carry me across and got stuck in the middle and couldn’t get out. Thank goodness for Dad on that day, he had to pull us out with the leads joined together.)

I come back from these walks pretty muddy so mum gives me a shower to get me clean.  I am a bit of a grublet. This time dad blow dried me with the hairdrier whilst mum brushed out my fur.  I am now fast asleep on the bed and won’t stir till morning.

What a fabulous day.
