What Is Green Tripe & Why Is It So Good For My Pet?

So what is Green Tripe?

Green tripe is the unwashed stomach of a ruminant animal that contains partially digested food.

It is often brown, green, or grey in colour. The colour depends on what the ruminant has been eating.

Ruminants such as cows, sheep, goats & deer are herbivores which means they eat plant matter. Herbivores have the digestive enzymes required to properly breakdown copious amounts of plant matter (such as grass and hay), therefore the stomach contents remaining in green tripe will be in a pre-digested form by the time a dog (or cat) eats it.

Green tripe contains endless digestive enzymes, amino acids, good bacteria and is beneficial for our cats and dogs, giving them a boost to their digestive system which, in turn, improves their immune system. Although it does have a ‘barnyard’ smell, it is irresistible to our pets

Why is Green Tripe So Good For My Pet?

Protein

Green Tripe is high in protein.

Protein is made up of hundreds or thousands of amino acids that perform essential functions in your pet’s body, including building muscle and enhancing all system functioning from immune response to tissue repair to urinary tract health.

How can I add Green Tripe to My Pets Diet and how much?

• If you feed your dog a raw diet you can add Green Tripe into their daily meal. The equation is 55% muscle meat, 25% Green Tripe, 10% bone & 10% organ.
• If you feed half raw and half kibble then add it to your daily raw portion. (Feed the raw and kibble separately. If you mix dry and raw your dog might get wind and a rumbly tummy and possibly runny poops!). The raw part of the meal should consist of 55% muscle meat, 25% Green Tripe, 10% bone & 10% organ.
• If you feed mainly a kibble based diet then you would feed it separately to the kibble as a treat or gut booster. Depending on the size of your dog you can feed 100g to 200g a day. • You can also give your pet dehydrated green tripe which is not as good as the fresh green tripe but is nonetheless packed full of nutrients and is a great chew.
