Manuka and Kanuka Hydrosol
Manuka and Kanuka are both known for their natural antibacterial and antifungal properties and have been used for centuries by Maori as a natural remedy. Hydrosol is produced during the steam extraction of Manuka and Kanuka essential oil. Hydrosols are especially good to use on animals as they contain minute amounts of essential oils which is great for animal’s sensitive skins.
Kanuka and Manuka have similar properties, though Kanuka is also known as an anti-inflammatory and is able to penetrate the skin and help with joint inflammation.
To use Kanuka and Manuka essential oils undiluted on dog’s skin is not recommended as they are strong and can burn sensitive skin. Hydrosols are recommended for use on dogs.
Essential Oils
Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses natural oils to enhance psychological and physical well-being. This is now an important part of everyday life for many people, and some are even extending its use to their four-legged family members!
It works via the senses, and in addition to the positive effect of touch that your dog will receive when you treat him with oils, he will benefit from their smell. Since your dog’s nose is much more sensitive to smell than yours, it’s not surprising that this form of holistic therapy is gaining popularity among pet owners.
After being applied to the skin, the oils evaporate and are inhaled. Their aromatic molecules enter the nasal cavity, sinuses and lungs, and are then absorbed into the bloodstream.
Essential oils are also considered to possess vibrational energy. This is supposed to have a positive healing effect on the emotional states of the body and mind.
There are hundreds of essential oils available, all of which can have different effects on dogs. And just as is the case in people, different dogs react differently to any one type of oil.
In this natural dog skin care range there are no fragrances used, only natural and where possible organic essential oils.
Please note that the essential oils are not recommended to be used on cats, they are unable to metabolise essential oils as dogs do.

Both Kanuka and Manuka oil have properties that not only nourish and moisturise your dog’s skin, but helps to protect their skin from parasitic and fungal infections.
Manuka oil is known to boost the skins healing capabilities, and it’s also used in the medical community to help combat some of the worlds most antibiotic-resistant infections that’s because of its ability to draw moisture out of the bacteria in an affected area, preventing and fighting off inflammation and infection.
