Description
The prey model diet is a raw feeding approach that aims to mimic the diet of wild animals by feeding cats and dogs a combination of raw meat, bones, and organs. A typical prey model diet blend of rabbit and chicken may contain the following:
-
Rabbit meat: Rabbit meat is a lean source of protein that is low in fat and high in nutrients. It is a good source of essential amino acids, such as lysine and tryptophan, as well as vitamins B12 and B6, niacin, and phosphorus.
-
Rabbit bones: Rabbit bones are small and soft, making them easy for cats and dogs to chew and digest. They are a natural source of calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals that are important for bone health.
-
Rabbit organs: Rabbit organs, such as liver and kidney, are a rich source of vitamins and minerals, including iron, vitamin A, and vitamin B12. They also provide important nutrients such as taurine, which is essential for feline health.
-
Chicken meat: Chicken meat is another lean source of protein that is high in essential amino acids. It is also a good source of vitamin B6 and niacin.
-
Chicken bones: Chicken bones are also small and soft, making them easy to chew and digest. They are a good source of calcium and phosphorus.
-
Chicken organs: Chicken organs, such as the liver and heart, are a rich source of vitamins and minerals, including iron, vitamins A, and B vitamins.
Recommended feeding:
For Dogs: 20g per Kg of body weight. i.e. 5kg dog = 20 x 5 = 100g of food per day
For Puppies & Kittens: Up to 18 months of age. 40g per 1Kg of body weight. i.e. 5 kg puppy = 40 x 5 = 200g of food per day.
Cats: Approx. 200g per day
Every pet is unique and has different nutritional requirements, adjust feeding levels according to the activity levels and condition of your pet.
Hint
- Cats like their meat blends at room temperature (“blood temperature”). If meat blends are cold, add some boiled water to “warm” the meat.
- Cats get their liquid from their meat, not usually from the water bowl.
- Older cats need animal protein, not more carbohydrates, and fats.
