Emma’s Story

In Loving Memory of My Darling Daughter, Emma – aged 22 – 16 June, 2017

At the age of 14 our daughter was diagnosed with Nocturnal Epilepsy. This meant that she would mostly have seizures during the night or first thing in the morning. When she was first diagnosed I was told she might grow out of it and the medication would stop the seizures. Neither turned out to be true. What specialists did not tell me was that Epilepsy can be fatal.  Skip forward 8 years and I was to find my worst nightmare became reality.  During the night my darling daughter passed away during a seizure.

Emma worked with me at our shop, attended markets and used to make all the dog biscuits for us to sell. It was her passion to come up with exciting and new ingredients that dogs would love.  Now I make all the biscuits for our shop.

It has been just over a year since she passed, and we have decided to fund raise for NZ Epilepsy Dog Assist.  These dogs are constant companions of people with epilepsy and can provide warning when a seizure is about to happen.

This trust provides:

  • Training of Epilepsy Assist Dogs
  • Help for people living with epilepsy to lead more independent lives
  • Promotion and public awareness of the importance and role of epilepsy assist dogs
  • Support for people training and using Epilepsy Assist Dogs
