Description

The prey model diet is a raw feeding approach that aims to mimic the diet of wild animals by feeding cats and dogs a combination of raw meat, bones, and organs. A typical prey model diet blend of venison and chicken may contain the following:

  • Venison and has a very high iron content (particularly good for anemic dogs) and is highly nutritious as the deer graze upon a wide range of plant species. A good source of vitamin B2, B3 & B12
  • Venison Organs: Vitamin A: Venison liver is an excellent source of vitamin A, which is essential for vision, immune function, and healthy skin and coat.
  • Venison liver and heart are both good sources of iron, a mineral that is important for oxygen transport in the body and plays a role in energy production.
  • Venison liver is a good source of zinc, a mineral that is important for immune function, wound healing, and skin health.
  • Venison liver is a good source of vitamin B12, a nutrient that is important for the nervous system, red blood cell production, and DNA synthesis.
  • Venison liver contains vitamin D, which is important for bone health, immune function, and many other biological processes.
  • Venison organs also contain smaller amounts of other important nutrients, including copper, selenium, and several B vitamins.
  • Chicken meat: Chicken meat is another lean source of protein that is high in essential amino acids. It is also a good source of vitamin B6 and niacin.
  • Chicken bones: Chicken bones are also small and soft, making them easy to chew and digest. They are a good source of calcium and phosphorus.
  • Chicken organs: Chicken organs, such as the liver and heart, are a rich source of vitamins and minerals, including iron, vitamins A, and B vitamins.

Recommended feeding:

For Dogs: 20g per Kg of body weight. i.e. 5kg dog = 20 x 5 = 100g of food per day

For Puppies & Kittens:  Up to 18 months of age. 40g per 1Kg of body weight. i.e. 5 kg puppy = 40 x 5 = 200g of food per day.

Cats:  Approx. 200g per day

Every pet is unique and has different nutritional requirements, adjust feeding levels according to the activity levels and condition of your pet.

Hint

  • Cats like their meat blends at room temperature (“blood temperature”).  If meat blends are cold, add some boiled water to “warm” the meat.
  • Cats get their liquid from their meat, not usually from the water bowl.
  • Older cats need animal protein, not more carbohydrates, and fats.
